About the NLEN
The Newfoundland and Labrador Environment Network was established in 1990 as a branch of the Canadian Environment Network (RCEN), which began in 1980. RCEN has over 2000 member groups. All provinces and the Yukon have active Environment Networks all funded by the RCEN.
The NLEN is a not for profit, non-advocacy, member-based organization that currently serves 50 groups throughout the province. NLEN member groups are all non-profit and operate to conserve, protect & restore our ecosystems through action, education, stewardship, and/or modeling ecologically sound ways of life. The mandate of the NLEN is to facilitate communication and collaboration between, build capacity within, and help provide resources for, non-governmental environmental organizations in all regions of the province. In addition, NLEN functions as a point of contact for municipalities, government departments, media and the public on environmental issues.
We are involved in many community initiatives, help organize coalition/working groups on a range of issues, and host various events and activities. We are also involved in the Provincial Wellness Coalition as a member of the Healthy Environments Committee.
