Nain Votes to Ban Plastic Bags

July 24, 2009

The community of Nain has become one of the first places in Newfoundland and Labrador to ban plastic shopping bags. The community, with a population of approximately 1,200, goes through more than 100,000 plastic shopping bags each year. The ban is expected to go into effect on Nov. 30.

 

 

ECTA and City of St. John’s launch Campaign to Clean Up Plastic Bags

September 10, 2008

The East Coast Trail Association (ECTA) and the City of St. John’s announced a joint campaign to clean up plastic bags littering the Sugarloaf Path near the Robin Hood Bay regional landfill site. The campaign will extend to encouraging the public to sharply reduce their use of plastic shopping bags.
